Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 17th August 2023 protesting and condemning the issuance of politically motivated and harassing cases against the mass people along with Jamaar leaders and activists.

“When the entire countrymen are saddened and shocked at the death of Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee, the government at that time did not allow the mournful citizens to take part in funeral prayer in Dhaka and funeral in absentia in various parts of the country. Moreover, the law enforcers attacked the gathering, hurled sound grenade and tear shell. They also filed false cases against Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General and former MP Hamidur Rahman Azad, Dhaka south city’s secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud and Jamaat’s former Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee Rahimahullah’s son Masood Sayedee and thousand other leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir. One party tyrannical regime’s such repression is a major blow against the victims of repression. We do not have the word to condemn such inhuman activities of the government. The countrymen did not witness such torture and oppression ever in the history of this country.

Government already arrested more than 200 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir from various places across the country including 22 from Dhunot of Bogra, and 33 from Pabna district. The countrymen are shocked with such activities of the government. No tyrant government could stay in office by dint of torture and oppression and this government will not be able to stay as well. Though the government did not allow the people but the millions of people from their personal arrangement prayed for Allama Sayedee sincerely. Allama Sayedee is no more with us physically. But late Allama Sayedee is stronger than the living one. He has taken position in the hearts of the people. The people will give stern reply to the oppression of the government on due time.

I am urging the concerned to stop propaganda and tortures and to withdraw cases which have been filed against Hamidur Rahman Azad, Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud and Masood Sayedee and also to release all political detainees immediately.
