Acting Secretary General criticizes the pro-Indian policy of the government

-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 11th August 2023 protesting and condemning the pro-Indian policy of Awami League and ongoing torture and repression against the Islamic parties of the country.

“India is our neighboring country. The people of Bangladesh want to maintain a friendly relationship with India. But regrettably, India always intends to make dominance over Bangladesh. Instead of resolving the bilateral crises, they are creating new problems and pushing Bangladesh toward danger. India did not respond in resolving water crisis, constructing Tipaimukh dam and border killings. Awami League gave up the national interest and took no effective measures to resolve the existing bilateral crises. Reversely, they are busy in flattering India in the name of improving relationship.

He stated that following the recent trip in India, a delegation of Awami League briefed the press on 10th August. People are really worried with their remarks and statements. Awami League claimed that India’s ruling party BJP assured to remain by their side during the upcoming election. Awami League’s tendency to impress India is an evidence of Awami League’s bankrupt and pro-Indian policy. In the press meet, Awami League leaders talked about resisting Jamaat-e-Islami and other Islamic parties which are unexpected and clear symptoms of interfering the domestic politics of Bangladesh. The issue of exchanging information between the intelligence of the two nations is also a major blow against the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh.

Jamaat-e-Islami had played historic role against militancy and the countrymen are well-informed about it. Jamaat’s 5 leaders and one journalist have been killed while playing this role. Awami League have mentioned some leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and made some confusing and untrue remarks against them. We are vehemently protesting and condemning such remarks.

Who will govern this country that will be decided through a free, fair and credible election. Awami League had arranged two farcical elections in 2014 and 2018. People did not forget such black memories. Awami League is again mulling to hold another election of rigging with the Indian assistance. But the countrymen will not accept such conspiracy anymore.

The people of Bangladesh are doing politics based on the constitutional rights while Awami League is doing politics by keeping India in confidence. The countrymen did not accept such activities of India. Awami League leaders threatened to resist Jamaat-e-Islami and other Islamic parties with the help of India. But the people will resist such conspiracies through a united effort.

We are urging the countrymen to be united against India’s pro-India policy and the conspiracy of holding farcical election. Besides, I am calling upon the government to hand over power to the caretaker government immediately in order to hold a free, fair and credible election.
