Acting Ameer condemns police’s obstacles and arrest drives; calls the government to step down immediately

Thanks the countrymen and party activists for making nationwide procession programs successful

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 30th July 2023 protesting and condemning the police’s obstruction and barriers against nationwide processions of Jamaat-e-Islami, subsequent arrests and harassment and simultaneously hailing the countrymen and the party leaders and activists for making the pre-declared programs successful.

Jamaat had declared programs earlier to press home its three-point demands and as a part of it, peaceful processions have been arranged in all districts. The government created barriers against today’s program as well. The law enforcers have arrested more than 200 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from various places of the country including Jessore, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Sirajganj, Jhinaidah, Kishorganj, Meherpur, Bagerhat, Narshingdi, Jamalpur and B-Baria. Despite all those obstructions and oppressions, Jamaat’s programs have been implemented successfully and this is why, I am sincerely thanking the countrymen and the Jamaat leaders and activists.

The entire nation is united now to meet the demand of caretaker government. Participation of hundreds of thousands of people in the processions of Jamaat-e-Islami again proved that the countrymen have extend their support to Jamaat-e-Islami. Jamaat always played a pivotal role in the movement for securing public rights. We have been observing that, the government is trying to foil the programs of Jamaat-e-Islami by arresting and harassing the Jamaat men without any reason. But Jamaat has made the pre-declared programs successful by dismissing the conspiracies of the government. The government cannot linger its tenure by continuing repression. Mass people already have taken to the street. The participations of the general masses are increasing day by day. No previous government could subdue people’s movement by repression and the incumbent government will not be able to that as well.

We are urging the government to step down and to hand over power to a caretaker government in order to hold a free, fair and credible election and also for restoring peace and comfortable environment in the country.
