-Professor Mujibur Rahman

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 16th April, 2023 expressing deep concern and sympathy over the recent fire accident that took place in Dhaka's New Super Market.

A massive blaze took place at around 5:45 am on last 15th of April in Dhaka's New Super Market. The fire was so huge that the surrounding areas became engulfed by the smoke and many shops have been burnt into ashes. The shoppers and traders had stored huge clothes centering the ensuing Eid-ul-Fitr. So, the amount of damages and losses are severe. The authorities already have declared the market closed for an uncertain period. As such, the traders are facing severe losses. Some 22 firefighters also became injured while dousing the fire. They are now undergoing treatment in various hospitals of the town. I am expressing deep shock and severe concern over the incident.

Within couple of days, three massive fire took place in the capital. The patriot and concerned citizens consider these frequent accidents as mysterious and they are keen to know whether these accidents are sabotage or not.

The losses, which have been made due to this fire accident, will never be fulfilled easily. I am praying to Allah seeking betterment of the traders, so that they can overcome the losses shortly. I am also praying for the quick recovery of the injured. Besides, I am urging the concerned authorities to pay due compensations to the victims and also to form a probe committee to find out the real reasons behind the accident.
