-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 18th December 2022 protesting the remarks of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner’s perplexing remarks about Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer.

In response to a query, on las 117th December, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq has made a remark about Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman which is intentional and far away from reality. A police officer can not say anything about an issue that is still under investigation. Such remarks are totally immoral and unlawful. We are vehemently condemning his remarks.

Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is a social worker and philanthropist and he always intends to do the betterment of the people. His student life and working life have been passed in Sylhet. Hundreds of thousands of people in those areas are well informed that Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is a pious and peace-loving person. Since his student life, he was involved in democratic activities. The allegation against this nobleman of sponsoring militancy is very intentional. The government arrested him immediately after his declaration of simultaneous movement to press home the 10-point demands. As a senior officer of the state’s law enforcers agency, Mr. Khandker Golam Faruq’s remark is not suitable for his office, responsibility, and professional dignity. An intentional statement from such a person about Jamaat Ameer is regrettable.

We are urging the concerned authorities to remain refrained from making such remarks.
