Police arrest Bagerhat district Jamaat leaders; Professor Mujib demands immediate release

-Professor Mujibur Rahman

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 26th May protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of Bagerhat district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Rezaul Karim and Secretary Advocate Younus Ali and simultaneously demanding their immediate release.

On last 25th May afternoon, Bagerhat district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Rezaul Karim and Secretary Advocate Younus Ali attended a funeral prayer at Dema Union under Sadar Upazila of Bagerhat district. On the way return home, they performed their Magrib (evening) prayer. Following the prayer, they came under attack from the local Awami goons.

Without any provocation, the ruling party miscreants harassed them physically. Later, police came to the spot and arrested both of them. On one side, the Awami terrorists are torturing the general masses. While instead of arresting them police are arresting and harassing the Jamaat leaders and activists in connection with some false cases. I am vehemently condemning such unjustified arrests of our two leaders.

We want to assert that, the police’s main task is to resist the offense and crimes. But the police are indulging the terrorists instead. As a result, the number of criminal offenses is increasing alarmingly. The continuation of such a situation will take this nation towards severe anarchy and chaos.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir including Bagerhat district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Rezaul Karim and Secretary Advocate Younus Ali immediately.
