Acting Secretary General condemns ongoing attacks on Hindu communities and subsequent crackdown against Muslim devotees

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 19 October 2021 protesting and condemning the civilian killings by the law enforcers in various places of the country centering the recent derogatory incident against the holy Quran, mass arrest, attack on the houses, temples and other establishments of the Hindu community and the provocative remarks of the responsible figures of the government.

Muslim devotees from across the country have arranged several processions nationwide protesting and condemning the recent derogatory incident against the holy Quran. Police shot fire in these processions. In one incident, 4 people were shot dead in Chandpur. Then, without any investigation, hundreds of people have been arrested from different places of the country. Cases have been filed against hundred others. We are observing that, avoiding the real facts, some responsible personnel of the government have made the situation more complicated by making provocative remarks. A vested quarter also made some unwanted offences like vandalizing Hindu temples, houses and looting their establishments.

From several dailies we came to know that arsons and vandalism took place against 25 houses and 60 other houses. A victim told the issue in this regard. He identified the offenders. 3 cattle also recovered from other places. If these identified persons are quizzed it would reveal the real truth. But instead of doing so, the authorities are trying to politicize the total incident.

When an incident occurs, the authorities should identify the personnel and bring them to the justice. But instead of doing that, they make political statements to hide the criminals.

The incident proved that; a vested quarter is trying to complicate the incidents in a planned way in order to attain benefits. We are vehemently condemning and protesting the incident.

We are urging the concerned authorities to investigate all the recent heinous incidents including derogation against the holy Quran, civilian killings by the law enforcers in Chandpur and attack on the houses, temples and other establishments of the Hindu community and also to take stern legal measures against the offenders.
