Dinajpur city Jamaat Ameer arrested; Secretary General condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 29 August, 2021 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of Dinajpur city Jamaat Ameer and district working committee member Sirajus Salehin.

“Police has arrested Mr. Sirajus Salehin on 29th August around 12.30 pm from his business office located in Dinajpur city’s Khetripara Renaissance club adjacent area. There was no arrest of warrant against him. The government has made an undemocratic move by arresting without any warrant. I am protesting such unlawful arrest.

He further said, police are unlawfully arresting the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami nationwide to bar party’s constructive activities and sued false case against them. The government has also hijacked people’s freedom of speech and other basic rights. The country has been turned into a police state. But dissident views can never be subdued by such arrest, imprisonment, warrant, enforced disappearance and murders.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained Jamaat leaders and activists including Sirajus Salehin immediately.
