Secretary General urges to behave humanly with the general people during lockdown

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 2 July 2021 urging the authority not to harass the general people during the lockdown.

‘The law enforcers agencies have arrested more than 5 hundred people from Dhaka and other parts of the country during the first day of the strict lockdown which has come into an effect since 1 July. The detainees had been awarded with different scale of punishments including fines and monetary compensation. People had to face harassment for their movement. The law enforcers in some occasions misbehaved with the rickshaw pullers and other day labors. It is inhuman to harass such low-income people. The government did not take any initiative to refrain the poor people from going outside from home for daily income. This is why, people have no option but coming out of the homes. We are of the view that the authority should distribute food and other necessary items among these poor people to bar them from going outside.

We are urging the concerned authorities to stop harassment and to behave patiently and humanly with the general people during lockdown.
