Mother, two children stabbed dead in Sylhet; Secretary General expresses concern over the deteriorating law and order situation

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 16 June 2021 protesting and condemning the murder of a mother along with her two children in Gowaighat Upazila of Sylhet district.

Some miscreants entered into a house located in Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet district in deep midnight and stabbed a mother along with her two children to death. Children’s father Hifzur Rahman was rescued and admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital with critical injuries. We cannot understand how much brutal a man can be to commit such brutal murders. We are condemning the atrocious and barbaric incident.

The law-and-order situation has been deteriorated across the country in recent times. Criminal offences like murder, abduction, enforced disappearance and rapes have become a regular phenomenon. Public lives and properties are not safe at all. People are being murdered and disappeared in broad daylight. Even the kids are not spared from such brutalities. The trend of committing crimes have increased as the culture of impunity is being indulged. The government cannot maintain the law and order at all. Government’s failure to ensure people’s safety has become apparent.

I am urging the concerned authorities to ensure exemplary punishments to the murderers who were involved with the triple murder incidents that took place in Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet district.
