Dinajpur district Jamaat leader arrested; Maulana Abdul Halim condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim has issued the following statement on 28 May 2021 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of Dinajpur North organizational district’s former Secretary and district unit Jamaat’s working committee member Md. Taiyeb Ali.

“Police has unjustifiably arrested Dinajpur North organizational district’s former Secretary and district unit Jamaat’s working committee member Md. Taiyeb Ali from his residence at midnight of 27 May. There had been no warrant of arrest against him. Police has been arresting Jamaat leaders and activists for last couple of days from different places of the country in last couple of days. The government has snatched people’s rights to move and freedom of speeches away. The entire nation has turned into a giant prison now. I am vehemently condemning such arrest drives of the government.

The law enforcement agencies, instead of discharging their duties are being used as a tool of repression by the government. But torture and repression can never bring positive result. I am urging the concerned authorities to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Md. Taiyeb Ali immediately.

In another statement, Dinajpur North organizational district’s Ameer Principal Anisur Rahman, Secretary Maulana Rabiul Islam and Dinajpur city Jamaat Ameer Sirajus Salehin have also condemned the arrest of Mr. Taiyeb Ali and urged the authorities concerned to release him immediately.
