Government drops ‘Except Israel’ from new passport; Secretary General condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 24 May 2021 protesting and condemning government’s recent move of excluding the provision ‘Except Israel’ from the Passport of Bangladesh.

“The provision of travel ban on Israel has been excluded from the passport of Bangladesh mysteriously. The government has taken the decision due to some invisible reason which is not known to us. The countrymen are highly shocked and surprised at this incident. We are condemning this decision of the government.

Bangladesh drops ‘Except Israel’ from Passport with an excuse of maintaining international standard. But we are not confirmed that whose satisfaction will be attained with this move?

We want to assert that Bangladeshi passport properly maintained the international standard keeping the word ‘Except Israel’ in it. The government is making a lame excuse now which is not acceptable at all. The countrymen want to know the ‘behind the scene’ reason right now.

We are urging the concerned authorities to withdraw the decision and also to include the text ‘Except Israel’ in the Bangladeshi passport immediately.
