Jamaat leader arrested in Kishorganj; Secretary General condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former member of Parliament Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 24 April 2021 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of Kishorganj district Sadar unit Jamaat Secretary Nur Uddin.

“Police arrested Kishorganj district Sadar unit Jamaat Secretary Nur Uddin from his house at 2 am at last midnight. There was no arrest warrant against him. During this ongoing month of Ramadan, it is obligatory to treat people softly and humanly. But instead of doing that, police are arresting people unjustifiably and repressing and torturing the detainees severely. I am condemning such arrest drive of the police force.

Instead of discharging due responsibilities, the law enforcers are being used as a tool of the government. But torture and oppression cannot bring good result for anyone. The government cannot linger its tenure by oppressing the people with dissident views.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the political detainees including Md. Nur Uddin immediately.

In another statement, Kishorganj district Jamaat Ameer Professor Muhammad Ramzan Ali protested and condemned the arrest incident and demanded immediate release of Jamaat leader Nur Uddin.
