Secretary General expresses deep concern over the ongoing arrest drive and tortures against religious leaders

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 21 April 2021 expressing deep concern over the ongoing arrest drive and severe mental torture in the name of police remand against the top brasses of various Islamic parties and religious leaders.

Police have been arresting top leaders of various Islamic parties and religious leaders indiscriminately and lodged false case against them. We are also getting news of mental torture and harassment of these religious personalities in the name of police remand. Government’s such behaviors and strategies against the religious community are humiliating and unjustified. We are condemning government’s repression.

Government is busy in hatching conspiracy to eliminate the prominent Islamic figures of the country. Actually, the government is inclined to destroy Islamic values and Islamic spirits. They are propagating false and derogatory stories against these veteran people and nobody will be spared from the bad impact of this misdeeds. I am urging the concerned people to be refrained from these bad practices. Besides, we are calling upon the concerned authorities to stop mass arrest drive and harassment against the Islamic leaders and religious personalities immediately.
