Mismanagement, irregularities and inefficiencies of the health sector exposed

Government fails to tackle covid-19 situation; Secretary General urges to take immediate effective measures

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former member of the Parliament Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 7 April 2021 expressing deep concern over the severe mismanagement in the overall health sector and existing disastrous situation.

“Entire health services have been collapsed. Mismanagement and disastrous situations are being exposed at all sectors. There is no discipline. Covid-19 situation is deteriorating alarmingly. Being infected with coronavirus, scores of people are being killed every day. So far, 6 lac 51 thousand and 652 people have been infected and 9 thousand and 384 people have been killed of covid-19.

Such chaotic and undisciplined situation is prevailing everywhere as the government failed to take due steps. Hospitals are suffering from in want of sufficient medical equipment. No one is getting general bed of ICU bed as vacant on demand. People are rushing from hospitals to hospitals but failed to admit their patients. People are being died without having a nominal treatment. There is apparent monitoring from the government to enforce health regulations. Government’s failures are being exposed at all levels.

We are urging the concerned authorities to employ doctors in all vacant positions nationwide and also to set up separate corona unit in all hospitals. Besides, we are calling upon the authorities to facilitate citizen’s healthcare by increasing ICU bed, emergency oxygen services and other medical supports.
