50 Jamaat-Chhatrashibir men arrested nationwide as police continues its arrest drives; Secretary General condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 31 March 2021 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrests of at least 50 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from various places of the country.

When the nation is celebrating 50 years of country’s independence, in such a moment, continuous arrest drives against the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and IslamiChhatrashibir are really shocking and painful. Government has arrested around 50 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and IslamiChhatrashibir from Rajshahi, Sylhet, Shariatpur and Feni. Police is arresting the party men in order to create obstruction to the constructive activities of Jamaat-e-Islami. I am condemning such arrest drives of the law enforcers.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic and democratic political party. The constitution of the country guarantees every political party to conduct its party activities. As such, the government is violating the constitution by detaining leaders and activists and obstructing the programs of Jamaat-e-Islami. The government is repeatedly violating constitution and pose a threat to the democracy and also creating anarchy and mayhem by engaging its ruling party cadres. Government is making a terrible and anarchic atmosphere in a preplanned way and detaining the Islam loving people relentlessly. But they cannot linger their tenure by such oppression and crackdown. I am asking the authority to stop torture and repression at once.

I am urging my fellow countrymen to raise voice against the incumbent tyrant government. Besides, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop repression and to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and IslamiChhatrashibir immediately.
