7 killed as police open fire against Muslim devotees; Jamaat Ameer condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 26 March 2021 protesting and condemning police’s open fire and brutal actions in Dhaka, Chittagong and Brahmanbaria which left at least 7 people killed and hundreds more injured.

26th March is our glorious Independence Day. It is a historic and significant day for Bangladesh. But we have been observing with great concern and sorrow that, on this special day, police opened fire against the general Muslim devotees which left 4 people killed in Chittagong, two in Dhaka and one in Brahmanbaria. Hundreds more people have been injured in these incidents. Off the injured, many are in critical conditions. at least 7 people killed and hundreds more injured. Such incidents are really shameful for us as we claim ourselves citizens of an independent country. We are vehemently protesting and condemning all these brutal and barbarous attacks.

The countrymen want to know, why these 7 people have been killed in Dhaka, Chittagong and Brahmanbaria? Why did police carry attack against the Muslim devotees in National Mosque Baitul Mukarram and elsewhere? May Allah accept all of them who have been killed in today’s attacks. I am extending deep shock to the victim families and their mournful relatives.

The entire nations are being repressed by one party authoritarian rule instead of celebrating Independence Day. I am urging my fellow countrymen to raise voice against the fascist activities of the government.
