Police arrests Jamaat leader in Chuadanga, carries raids in leader’s houses and professional chambers; Secretary General condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 19 March 2021 protesting and condemning the police raid in the tax chamber of Chuadanga district Jamaat’s Secretary Advocate Ruhul Amin and the subsequent arrest of district Jamaat’s office assistant Sharif Hasan.

Police has arrested Chuadanga district Jamaat’s office assistant Sharif Hasan from his office on 18th March, 1.30 am. Later, police conducted raid in the houses of Chuadanga district Jamaat’s Secretary Advocate Ruhul Amin and municipality unit Ameer Advocate Masud Parvez Rasel. But as they did not find them in their houses, police went to the tax chamber of Advocate Ruhul Amin Badsha and vandalized the offices. Police also seized 300 pieces of Jamaat Ameer’s address that he delivered on the occasion of marking 50 years of country’s independence. I am protesting and condemning such arrest drive and seizing activities of the police forces.

Marking the 50 years celebration of our independence, all political parties of the country are observing various programs. Jamaat-e-Islami has also declared several programs and those declared programs are being implemented by the party leaders and activists. When the nation is observing 50 years celebration of independence, at such period, police is arresting Jamaat and Chhatrashibir leaders and activists which is really painful.

I am urging the concerned authorities to stop the repression and crackdown at once and to release Sharif Hasan also to return all sorts of seized documents immediately.”
