Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP Mia Golam Porwar said, “With the aim of formulating a people-friendly, realistic, and accountable election manifesto for the upcoming national election, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has undertaken a unique initiative titled the ‘People’s Manifesto (Janatar Ishtehar).’ Under this initiative, direct opinions will be collected from the people across the country for seven consecutive days—from 18 December to 24 December, Insha Allah.
He further said, “Through Jamaat-e-Islami’s designated website www.janatarishtehar.org and an app-based digital platform, ordinary citizens will be able to submit their policy opinions, problems, and proposals at both national and local levels. Alongside written submissions, there will also be opportunities to provide opinions through audio and video formats.”
Mia Golam Porwar stated, “In the prevailing political culture, opportunities for the direct participation of the public in drafting election manifestos are very limited. Through the ‘People’s Manifesto’ program, the core objective of this initiative is to change that tradition by involving the people not merely as voters, but as co-authors of the manifesto.”
He added, “This program will be implemented on the basis of three fundamental pillars:
Firstly, direct public participation—where citizens will present their opinions using online and digital platforms.
Secondly, an online manifesto based on technology-driven and data-based analysis—through which the collected opinions will be categorized, evaluated, prioritized, and published online as a manifesto.
Thirdly, a digital promise tracker: Through which the progress of commitments made in the manifesto will be presented to the public in the future. Under this framework, a two-tier manifesto structure will be developed—one national integrated manifesto and another constituency-based or local manifesto.
He said, “All collected opinions will be analyzed through structured and data-driven evaluation, and the election manifesto will be prepared on the basis of a measurable, specific, and time-bound framework.” He also informed that there are plans to launch a web-based digital promise tracker in the future to monitor the implementation of commitments made in the manifesto.
Expressing optimism, he said, “This initiative of Jamaat-e-Islami will establish a new benchmark of transparency, participation, and accountability in Bangladesh’s politics.”
