Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 5th April, 2017 urging the authorities concerned to release world renowned preacher of the holy Quran, former member of the Parliament and one of the top most leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee.
“The government has intentionally kept Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee behind the bar. The hearing of the review petition of Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee is in the cause list of the Appellate Division and its hearing can be taken place shortly. He had been sentenced by the tribunal with death penalty for murdering a person named Bishabali. The appellate division has reduced his conviction to lifetime imprisonment. But he was not involved with this murder. No question of his involvement can be emanated at all.
Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee is completely innocent. Several important, concerned and distinguished personnel including a sub-sector commander of the liberation force citing him innocent. Shukhranjan Bali, the brother of the victim Bishabali, also desired to place testimony in favour of Allama Sayedee appearing in the tribunal. But unfortunately, he has been abducted from the tribunal premise. The prosecution produced some witnesses on this charge but mysteriously they failed to produce any of the family members of Bishabali. With this reality, the countrymen clearly realize that if Shukhranjan Bali was allowed to place testimony as defence witness, then the real truth and mystery with this murder would be disclosed before the nation.
We hope that Allama Sayedee would get justice in the hearing of the review petition. By the will of Almighty Allah, he will return to the people, if he gets justice. We are calling upon the countrymen to offer prayer to Almighty Allah seeking His blessings and mercy for the due justice for Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee
