Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Ataur Rahman has issued the following statement on 14th January, 2017 protesting the unjustifiable arrest of Rangpur district Jamaat’s Secretary Obaidullah Salafi and Khulna city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary and 31 ward councilor Advocate Sheikh Jahangir Hossen Helal.

“Police has unlawfully arrested Rangpur district Jamaat’s Secretary Obaidullah Salafi and Khulna city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary and 31 ward councilor Advocate Sheikh Jahangir Hossen Helal in order to harass them politically.

The government is continuously arresting the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir nationwide in a bid to make Jamaat a leaderless party. This anti-people government has been imprisoning the opposition men just to linger its tyrannical tenure. The torture and repression of this government has exceeded all the levels of tolerance. I am urging the countrymen to protest against the ongoing torture and repression of the government.

I am calling upon the authorities concerned to stop its ongoing arrest drive and to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir including Rangpur district Jamaat’s Secretary Obaidullah Salafi and Khulna city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary and 31 ward councilor Advocate Sheikh Jahangir Hossen Helal immediately.”
