Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General and party's Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department, Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair issued a statement today, September 16, strongly condemning and protesting the baseless, false, and politically motivated report published under the headline "ভারতীয় এজেন্ডা নিয়ে মাঠে জামায়াত (Jamaat in the Field with Indian Agenda).

In the statement, he said: “I strongly condemn and protest the fabricated, false, and politically motivated report published on the front page of Daily Inqilab on September 16 under the headline "ভারতীয় এজেন্ডা নিয়ে মাঠে জামায়াত (Jamaat in the Field with Indian Agenda).’ In reality, Dr. Zahedur Rahman has conspired and mislead the public in order to implement an Indian agenda and oppose the Proportional Representation (PR) system. Yet, the PR system is a modern, advanced democratic framework, currently effective in more than 91 countries worldwide. The majority of Bangladesh’s intellectuals, journalists, Islamic scholars, political leaders, and students support elections under the PR system. However, a vested quarter is spreading false information to mislead the people so that democracy and democratic institutions in the country cannot be strengthened on a solid foundation.

He further said that at present, along with Jamaat-e-Islami, 25 political parties are demanding elections under the PR system. The people of the country believe that those who oppose this system for personal or partisan interests and label it as an Indian agenda are, in fact, seeking to harm democracy and national interests.

He stated that very soon, in the face of people’s movement, the government will be compelled to hold elections under the PR system. This will establish a balanced and sustainable National Parliament, consolidate the progress of democracy, and ensure economic development and national stability.

Addressing the concerned quarters, he said: Stop carrying out propaganda against Jamaat-e-Islami with ulterior motives. At the same time, I call upon the authorities of Daily Inqilab and all concerned to use their pens in favor of the PR system and to play a positive role in establishing a sound and strong democratic framework.”
