Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former Member of Parliament Professor Mia Golam Porwar issued a statement on September 6 strongly condemning and protesting the attempted murder of NDM Chairman Bobby Hajjaj.
In the statement, he said, “As part of a blueprint to destabilize the country, a series of continuous attacks are being carried out on national leaders in recent times. Recently, Mr. Nurul Haque Nur, President of Gano Adhikar Parishad, and Khandaker Lutfor Rahman, President (one faction) of JAGPA and a valiant freedom fighter, were brutally attacked with the intention to kill them, leaving them seriously injured. The attack on Bobby Hajjaj is a continuation of the same conspiracy.
He further said, “In post-July Movement Bangladesh, such attacks can in no way be accepted. The situation proves that although fascism has been ousted, its accomplices are still plotting deeply to create unrest in the country and destabilize the political environment. Especially as the nation moves towards elections, these attacks are ominous signs for the people.
I call upon the concerned authorities to immediately arrest those involved in the recent attacks on political leaders including Bobby Hajjaj and ensure exemplary punishment. At the same time, I urge the relevant authorities to maintain law and order, peace, and stability in the country.”
