-Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair issued a statement today, September 6 expressing deep concern and strong condemnation over the incident of exhuming and burning the body of ‘Nural Pagla’ in Goalanda under Rajbari district.

In the statement, he said: “In Goalanda of Rajbari district, the body of Nurul Haque, alias ‘Nural Pagla’, who had claimed to be the ‘Imam Mahdi’, was exhumed from his grave and burnt by the so-called ‘Iman-Aqidah Protection Committee’. Nurul Haque is now dead; for whatever he did during his lifetime, he will be accountable before Allah. But Islam does not permit exhuming a body from the grave and burning it in such a manner. Through this incident, human and religious values have been violated. We express our deep concern and strong condemnation over this event.

He further said: “Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic, democratic movement and party that operates based on Islamic ideology. Jamaat-e-Islami does not tolerate any activity that creates chaos in society or within the state. Jamaat-e-Islami has always played a responsible role in establishing peace in the country and building a just society. Therefore, attempts to associate Jamaat-e-Islami’s name with this incident are extremely regrettable, unwanted, and undesirable.”

He added: “The country has a functioning legal and judicial system. Taking the law into one’s own hands can in no way be acceptable. For the sake of maintaining law and order, peace, and stability in the country, the law enforcement agencies should have played a more responsible role. We call upon all concerned to refrain from any activities that may create unrest and chaos in society.”
