Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former Member of Parliament Professor Mia Golam Parwar on September 2, issued a message of condolence expressing deep sorrow and sympathy over the tragic deaths of more than a thousand people in a massive landslide in the Marra Mountains of the western Darfur region of Sudan.
In the statement, he said: “On August 31, a devastating landslide in the Marra Mountains of western Darfur, Sudan, resulted in the tragic deaths of over a thousand people. On behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and myself, I express my heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to the affected people of Sudan. I pray to Almighty Allah seeking the forgiveness of the departed souls and extend profound sympathy to their grieving families. I also pray to Almighty Allah for the speedy recovery and safe rehabilitation of the injured and affected individuals.
He further stated that the massive loss of innocent lives in this catastrophic incident is a heartbreaking tragedy for all of humanity. The death of countless men, women, and children, along with an entire village being buried under the earth, is undoubtedly an immensely tragic and sorrowful event.
In light of this horrific disaster, the people of Sudan, who have already been suffering from a prolonged civil war and humanitarian crisis, he urgently call upon the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and humanitarian aid agencies to take swift and effective measures to recover the bodies of the deceased, rescue the survivors, and ensure the provision of necessary food, medical care, and shelter.”
