Jamaat Ameer calls to stand beside flood-affected helpless people

-Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman issued a statement on 10 July, urging all sections of society to come forward in support of those affected by the devastating floods caused by continuous rainfall across various regions of the country.

In the statement, he said, “Due to the relentless rainfall over the past few days, public life in the country’s coastal and hilly areas has been severely disrupted. In particular, people in districts such as Feni, Noakhali, Shariatpur, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, Sylhet, Khulna, Patuakhali, Barguna, and Mymensingh are facing extreme hardship. Many families in rural areas have become trapped in their homes due to the lack of boats. People of all ages—including children, women, and the elderly—are struggling in the floodwaters. Residential houses, roads, and farmlands have been inundated. In many places, electricity and communication systems have collapsed.”

He added, “With the rising water levels, saving poultry and livestock has become a major challenge. There is a severe shortage of food and clean drinking water. The risk of waterborne diseases spreading is increasing. Riverbank erosion scenario is also worsening. In this dire situation, I seek mercy and assistance from Almighty Allah.”

The Jamaat Ameer emphasized, “Government’s initiative is the most crucial in tackling such disasters. I urge the government to immediately carry out rescue operations and ensure sufficient relief aid for the flood-affected people. At the same time, I call upon Jamaat’s leaders and activists in the affected areas to stand by the victims with utmost sincerity and assistance.”

He also appealed to all capable and kind-hearted individuals in society, saying,

“In this humanitarian crisis, let everyone fulfill their responsibilities from their respective positions. May Allah protect us all and deliver the people of the country from this calamity. Ameen.”
