Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan issued a statement on 10th October expressing deep concern over the death of one fisherman named Muhammad Osman and the shooting of three other fishermen while they were fishing in the Bay of Bengal on October 9 afternoon.
In a statement, he said, on Wednesday afternoon, the Myanmar Navy fired at a Bangladeshi fishing trawler in the Moulvir Shil estuary, southwest of Saint Martin Island in the Bay of Bengal. One fisherman named Muhammad Osman was killed and 3 other fishermen were shot in this firing incident. At this time, five trawlers and fishermen were abducted by the Myanmar Navy. Muhammad Osman, the fisherman who was shot dead, is the son of Bachchu Mia of Konarpara area of Shah Pari Island. I am deeply concerned about the killings of Bangladeshi fisherman by the Myanmar border guards.

We hope the Myanmar government will stop the unwanted killings on the Myanmar-Bangladesh border and conduct a fair and impartial investigation into the killings incident and take legal action against the offenders.
