-Professor Mia Golam Parwar

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar issued the following statement on September 20, 2024 expressing deep concern and also condemning and protesting the killing of two people in Dhaka and Jahangirnagar universities on the same day.

"On Thursday, September 19, two people were beaten to death in Dhaka and Jahangirnagar universities on the same day. A group of students beat up a young man named Tofazzal Hossain on suspicion of being a thief in Fazlul Haque Muslim (FH) Hall of Dhaka University. And similarly the former student leader of Jahangirnagar University, Shamim Mollah, was beaten to death. On the other hand, a young man named Mamun was beaten to death in Khagrachari last Wednesday as suspected thief. Earlier, on 7th September, Former Chhatra League leader Abdullah Al Masood was beaten to death in Rajshahi University. The incidents of these killings have created intense discontent and anger across the country. Beating people to death or mob justice is heartbreaking, cruel, and tragic. I express deep concern and condemn and protest these tragic killings. At the same time, I pray seeking salvation for the departed and express my deepest condolences to their families.

All the above incidents of murders have been committed over trivial incidents. A tendency to take the law into own hands has been demonstrated through these incidents. Such incidents are a serious threat and ominous sign for the peace and stability of the country.

The law enforcement agencies should be vigilant so that no one dares to take the law into their own hands. Such incidents may cause disturbance in the country and these tendencies must be checked with strict hands. Every murder incident must be tried fairly to ensure good governance in the country.

I appeal to the concerned authorities to quickly arrest those criminals who were involved in these murders and bring them to justice to ensure exemplary punishment.”
