Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 7th July, 2024 urging the government to accept the justified demands of the agitating and the Public University teachers students who are taking to the street for abolishing quota system in the public services and also the demands of the Public University teachers in order to bring an end to the ongoing stalemate.
The student communities are taking to the street for cancelling the quota system from the public services while the public University teachers are in a movement for cancelling the proposed pension scheme. Due to their movements, academic activities are being hampered in all educational institutions nationwide. The demands of the agitating students and teachers are mostly logical.
We have been observing with deep concern that the government is not paying any heed to the demands of the agitating students and teachers. We are of the view that, the ongoing stalemate should be resolved through a fruitful dialogue with teachers and students and subsequently by accepting their just demands.
I am urging the concerned authorities to take immediate effective steps to resolve the ongoing crisis through amicable solutions.
