Acting Secretary General protests police's obstructions and ruling party cadre's attack on a procession of a minority organization in Cumilla

-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 13th October 2023 protesting the obstructions of the police forces and subsequent attacks of Chhatra League and Jubo League cadres on a procession of Hindu Buddhist Christian

Unity Council in Cumilla which left several people injured.

Hindu Buddhist Christian community council organized a protest demonstration in Rajshtholi temple area located in Nazrul Avenue of the Cumilla town on 13th October morning. Following the program, the agitators brought out a procession at 11:30 in the morning which has been obstructed by the police forces. At the same time, some 500 Chatra League and Jubo League cadres chased the procession and foiled the event totally. Several demonstrators became injured in this incident. I am protesting police's obstructions and ruling party cadre's attack on the procession of this minority organisation.

Acting Secretary General further stated that Bangladesh is a land of communal harmony. It is the constitutional right of every citizen to bring out or to take part in procession or rallies. It is natural that the activists of all parties and people of all faith and religions would place their demands and protest the unlawful activities. But ruling Awami League is not eager to accept criticism and the violent incident of Cumilla once again proved this reality. I am urging the concerned authorities to allow all parties, organisations and people of all faiths and communities to arrange their programs including demonstrations, processions and rallies.
