7 Jamaat leaders and activists arrested from Jessore; Acting Secretary General protests

-Maulana ATM Masum

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 26th September 2023 protesting and condemning the unjust arrests of 7 leaders and activists of Jessore district Jamaat-e-Islami including Jessore east organizational district Secretary Principal Maulana Abu Zafor Siddique.

Police have arrested Jessore east organizational district Secretary Principal Maulana Abu Zafor Siddique from his office on 26th September and earlier they had arrested 6 Jamaat leaders and activists including Jessore Sadar South organizational Ameer Professor Ashraf Ali last night. There was no arrest of warrant against them. I am severely condemning the unjust arrest drives of the police forces.

The ongoing movement to restore democracy and caretaker government system is getting intensified day by day. The people have no confidence and trust upon this fascist government. The government is continuing arrest drive nationwide across the opposition leaders and activists, particularly of Jamaat-e-Islami as they are in fear of losing power. No one is safe under the current regime. Abduction, arrest, murder and enforced disappearances have become their routine work. The whole nation has been transformed into a police state. The law enforcers are being used as a tool for implementing government’s agenda instead of preserving the citizens. But the government will not be able to stay in office by subduing the dissident views.

I am urging the government to stop torture and arrest drive and also to release all detained leaders and activists including Principal Maulana Abu Zafor Siddique immediately.
