Rangpur city Jamaat leaders including a former female vice chairman sent to jail; Secretary General condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former member of the Parliament Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 26 January 2021 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrests of Rangpur city Jamaat’s Secretary Obaidullah Salafi and Rangpur division Women’s wing’s Assistant Secretary and MithapukurUpazila Council’s former female Vice chairman Morsheda Begum.

Having full respect towards the law, Rangpur city Jamaat’s Secretary Obaidullah Salafi and Rangpur division Women’s wing’s Assistant Secretary and MithapukurUpazila Council’s former female Vice chairman Morsheda Begum have surrendered before a Rangpur city court today in connection with two false political cases and submitted a bail plea. But the court rejected their plea and sent them to jail. Though, they have the rights to secure bail but their appeal finally remained unheard. The government actually filed these false cases against him in order to harass them politically. We are condemning such an intentional move of the government.

I am calling upon the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir including Obaidullah Salafi and Morsheda Begum immediately.
