Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 7 January 2021 urging to take immediate steps to resolve ongoing crises with the Qatar bound expatriates.

Since March of 2020, some 12 thousands expatriates, working in various job fields in Qatar have been passing days amidst severe uncertainty. They came home on vacations but could not return due pandemic situation. The duration of their Qatar ID cards have been expired. Being unable to go back to their working places, they are experiencing acute financial crisis and now leading miserable lives. Hundreds of such expatriates have taken to the streets in recent days demanding immediate solutions. But the government, so far did not take any effective measures to bring the crisis to an end. But proper diplomatic initiatives should be carried out to solve these problems.

These expatriates are our remittance warriors. They are making significant contributions in the financial development of the country. As such, we are calling upon the concerned authorities to take proper steps to resolve the crises of the Qatar bound expatriates immediately.
