Police arrests 19 Jamaat leaders and activists in Nilphamari; Secretary General condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 31 December 2020 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of 19 leaders and activists from Nilphamari district including Sadar unit Nayeb-e-Ameer Qari Abdul Aziz and Gorgram union president Maulana Humayun Kabir.

“Police on last 29 December has arrested 19 Jamaat leaders and activists from a Kirtoniapara Nagarban Jame Mosque in Gorgram under Nilphamari Sadar including Sadar unit Nayeb-e-Ameer Qari Abdul Aziz and Gorgram union president Maulana Humayun Kabir. No warrant of arrest has been served against them earlier. Police has arrested them without any warrant and without any excuse. Such action clearly goes against the constitutionally endorsed rights of the individuals. This arrest incident also exposed the undemocratic attitude of the government. We are condemning the incident vehemently.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release 19 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir including Sadar unit Qari Abdul Aziz immediately.
