Member of the defence team of International Crimes Tribunal, lawyer of Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid and Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda has issued the following statement on 15 December 2020 protesting and condemning the report published in Samaynews.tv titled “মুজাহিদের পরামর্শেই আলবদর গঠন, নথি মিলল রাজশাহীতে” (Al Badar was formed as per the suggestion of Mujahid, documents found in Rajshahi).

A report published in Samaynews.tv titled “মুজাহিদের পরামর্শেই আলবদর গঠন, নথি মিলল রাজশাহীতে” (Al Badar was formed as per the suggestion of Mujahid, documents found in Rajshahi) claimed the involvement of Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid in the formation process of Al Badar, which is totally false and politically motivated. The government has arranged trial process in the international crimes’ tribunal in connection with 7 specific charges. 

During the trial, the investigating officer stated in the tribunal that he has found no evidence to prove that since the independence, any case was filed either in Faridpur district or anywhere else in the country in connection of his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the liberation war. Responding to another query, he also said, during my investigation, I did not find the name of Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid in any list of the auxiliary forces including Razakar, Al Badar, Ash Shams and Peace committee. (Page: 133: Prosecution witness no:17. The IO of the case Abdur Razzaq Khan)

The investigating officer said these in front of the tribunal after verifying and scrutinizing all the documents related to the liberation war. But more than 5 years after those trial process, a fictitious story is being made to prove the affiliation of Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid with the formation of Al Badar. This reality substantiates the irrelevance and falsehood of the report in broad perspective.

In reality, the charges which had been produced by the government against Mr. Mujahid were not proved. The trial court sentenced him to death in two charges. He filed an appeal in appellate division against such verdict of the tribunal. The Appellate division acquitted him from one charge. Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid at that time said, as the Appeal court acquitted from me from one charge and so it is not justified to uphold my death penalty.

The aforesaid reports placed some signatureless documents just to implicate Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid which is nothing but a political indecency. I am urging the concerned authorities to remain refrained from publishing such false, fictitious and untrue information.
