Jamaat Ameer remembers Shaheed Abdul Quader Molla and his contribution; urges party men to implement his last desires

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 11 December 2020 remembering the contribution of former Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami, noted journalist and intellectual Abdul Quader Molla.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s former Assistant Secretary General noted journalist and intellectual Abdul Quader Molla has struggled throughout his life to establish an Islamic welfare state. As a politician, author, academician and researcher, he contributed a lot for the development of the nation. He was a member of the liaison committee during the anti-autocracy movement during 90s. He played pivotal role to establish democracy, rule of law, people’s voting rights and human rights. As a columnist, he also tried to revive the good conscience of the people. But later on, the government filed a case of crimes against humanity against him in international crimes tribunal.

Following the trial procedures, the tribunal sentenced him with life-term imprisonment. But then, a so-called platform namely ‘Gono Jagoron Moncho’ was established under the direct backing of the government. As per their demands, the government amended the law and appealed against the tribunal’s verdict in the Appellate division. The appellate division handed down death penalty against him. Abdul Quader Molla did not get the privilege of filing appeal against the verdict of the appellate division. Even before the disclosure of the entire verdict, the government made a hurry and hanged him to death on 12 December of 2013 at 10.01 pm. One and half year of that execution, the entire verdict was published. These incidents proved that, Abdul Quader Molla was made deprived from getting justice.

Before his execution, Shaheed Abdul Quader Molla had stated that, the government is going to hang me unjustifiably. Every single drop of my blood will inspire the leaders and activists of the Islamic movement. He had urged the Islamic movement activists to take revenge of his execution by establishing Almighty Allah’s rule in this country.

I am recalling his contribution in the Islamic movement with deep sense of respect and praying to Allah for the acceptance of his martyrdom. We are praying to Allah seeking patience and good reward for his family. I am urging the manpower, leaders, activists, well-wishers of Jamaat-e-Islami to go forward with firm determination in order to implement his dream of building an Islamic society.
