Gaibandha district Jamaat’s former Ameer Abdur Rahim sent to jail; Secretary General condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 29 November 2020 protesting and condemning the arrest of Gaibandha district’s Jamaat’s former Ameer Dr. Abdur Rahim in connection with a false and concocted case.

Former Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Gaibandha district Dr. Abdur Rahim has surrendered before a district court today in line with two false cases, which had been sued against him earlier. He has submitted a bail plea in those cases showing his full respect towards the law. But the court dismissed his plea and sent him to jail. Though he has all the rights to secure bail but he was denied. We are surprised at such move. Actually, the government filed these false cases against him just to harass him politically. I am condemning such intentional steps of the government.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Dr. Abdur Rahim immediately.
