Court sentences Brahmanbaria district Jamaat and Chhatrashibir leaders with two years imprisonment; Secretary General condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 12 October 2020 protesting and condemning the sentence of imprisonment which have been handed down against 21 leaders and activists of Brahmanbaria district Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir including district’s Ameer Golam Faruq and former Ameer Syed Golam Sorwar and Principal Kazi Nazrul Islam Khadem.

“In connection with a false and conspiring case of 2012, a court in Brahmanbaria has sentenced 21 leaders and activists of Brahmanbaria district Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir including district’s Ameer Golam Faruq and former Ameer Syed Golam Sorwar and Principal Kazi Nazrul Islam Khadem with two years of imprisonment and two thousand taka fine and another one month of imprisonment if it is not paid.

Earlier, government filed this case in 2012 in order to attain its ill-political interest. The government is using the administration to convict the Jamaat-Shibir leaders as they failed to tackle them politically. We are condemning and protesting such fascist activities of the government.

We are also urging the concerned authorities to stop harassment against the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir and to release all the detainees immediately.
