Police arrests Rangpur city Jamaat leader; Secretary General demands immediate release

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 7 October 2020 protesting and condemning the unjust arrests of Rangpur city’s Tajhat thana unit Ameer Anwarul Haque Kazal.

“Police on 6 October night arrested Rangpur city’s Shura and working council member and Tajhat thana Ameer Anwarul Haque Kazal and Sharif Ahmed Rizvi from their house without any reasonable cause. They have been shown arrest under Special Power Act 15 (3). There was no arrest warrant against them. They have been arrested just to serve the political interest of the government.

Nationwide murders, rape and tortures against women have turned into an epidemic. When the nation is severely suffering from deteriorating law and order, women repression and rape, at that time government is trying to divert the attention of the people by arresting the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami. Their ill-attempts will never be succeeded.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, including Anwarul Haque Kazal immediately.
