India court acquits BJP leaders in Babri Mosque demolition case; Jamaat Ameer expresses concern

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 1 October 2020 expressing deep concern as an Indian court has acquitted top leaders of the governing BJP of any wrongdoing in the destruction by Hindu mobs of a historic mosque in 1992.

Some mobs from a religious procession organized by right-wing Hindu groups, including the then main opposition BJP demolished the 5-hundred-year-old historic Babri Mosque in Ayodhya. Peace loving people from across the globe vehemently condemned those violent moves of the Hindu extremists.

Last year, the Supreme Court gave the land to Hindus, ending a decades-long legal battle. A former chief justice of India also raised question about the validity of that judgment as well.

A30 long years after such demolition, Wednesday's verdict acquitted 32 of the 49 people charged - 17 had died while the case was under way. The court said there was insufficient evidence to prove the demolition had been planned. But it is a matter of fact that, people from different places of the world witnessed that vicious attacks of the Hindu mobs against the Babri mosque. The latest verdict has truly recognized the ultra-communalism, which is reigning over India now.
