Abul Asad’s bail order postponed; Secretary General condemns; demands immediate release

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 29 September 2020 protesting and condemning the postponement of the bail of noted journalist and Daily Sangram’s editor Abul Asad.

Mr. Abul Asad has been kept behind the bar for last 9 and half months. He is a veteran journalist. He is the editor of country’s oldest Bengali daily. He is being imprisoned in connection with some false case. Earlier, he received bail from the High Court. Obtaining bail is his legal right. But when everything is set for his release, the government is causing new barrier to delay his release. His bail order postponed once again as the government pleads against it. Government’s such move shocked us.

Abul Asad has made a significant contribution in the field of literature and journalism. The government has committed a worse type of repression by putting this old aged man in the prison. Authority’s repressive attitude has been exposed through such activities.

We are urging the concerned authorities to release Mr. Abul Asad immediately.
