Massive cyclone hits Chittagong coastal belt area; Jamaat Ameer expresses concern at the casualties

Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 30th May, 2017 expressing deep concern as cyclone Mora very destructively attacked the Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar coastal area which left 6 peoples killed, several injured and destroyed many houses, crops, trees and other establishments.

“I am expressing my deep concern and worries as cyclone Mora very destructively attacked the Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar coastal area which left 6 peoples killed, several injured and destroyed many houses, crops, trees and other establishments. The devastating cyclone caused massive damage to the crops, trees and other natural elements in Saint Martin’s Island, Teknaf, Kutubdia and Moheshkhali area. Many houses have been demolished completely. Adjacent embankments have been broken and many areas have been submerged.

Huge numbers of peoples have taken shelter in the cyclone centres. But most of them have been affected by diarrhoea and they are experiencing acute food crisis. Overall mismanagements are being witnessed everywhere.

I am urging the concerned authorities of the government to undertake due steps to ensure proper medical treatment, food, safe drinking water, house repairing materials and financial compensation to the victims and also to those who have taken shelter in the cyclone centres. Besides, I am calling upon the affluent communities and the local Jamaat leaders and activists to take by the side of the cyclone victims.

I am praying for the salvation of the departed souls who have been killed in this cyclone and extending sympathy to their mournful families. I am also praying for the quick recovery of the injured victims.”
