Professor Mujib appointed as Acting Ameer; Maulana ATM Masum becomes Acting Secretary General

In the backdrop of the unjustified arrest of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad and Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on last 9th October, according to the party’s constitution, party’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman has been appointed as the Acting Ameer and Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has been appointed as the Acting Secretary General of the organization.

A short profile of Professor Mujibur Rahman:

Professor Mujibur Rahman joined Jamaat-e-Islami in 1979. He contested from Rajshahi-1 constituency (Godagari-Tanor) in 1986 parliamentary election and became elected bagging large number of votes. He has played a pivotal role as the leader of the 10 member parliamentary committee in the then national parliament.

Professor Mujibur Rahman was born in 1st January, 1955 in Alatuli village of the Godagari Upazila in Rajshahi district. After completing his honours, followed by MA in English literature from Rajshahi University, he was passed the BCS education cadre exam. Even though he did not join the government job as he had intention to get more involved with the Islamic movement. Finally he began his professional career as a professor of English department in a non-government college. Professor Mujib also obtained diploma degree in Arabic and Persian language from Rajshahi University.

A short profile of Maulana ATM Masum:

Maulana ATM Masum was the central leader of Islami Chhatrashibir. After joining Jamaat-e-Islami, he discharged duties as the Nayeb-e-Ameer of Dhaka city Jamaat and later on as central publications affairs secretary. Abu Taher Mohammad Masum Bhuiyan was born in an elegant Muslim family in Narayanpur village of the Laksham Upazila in Comilla district. He obtained Kamil (Hadith) from Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board in 1979 and MA in Political Science from Dhaka University in 1987.
