Majority Muslims don’t support ISIS: Pew RC

Many facts about Muslims and Islam are not well known, especially in the countries where Muslim population is relatively low, says Pew Research Center.
The Pew Research Center is a Washington-based nonpartisan American "fact tank".
In a study report released recently, the centre has observed that although “acts of violence in the name of Islam” have brought Muslims and the Islamic faith to the forefront of the political debate, Muslims are the fastest-growing religious group in the world today.
If the current trend continues, the number of Muslims -- currently roughly 23 per cent of the world population -- will exceed the number of Christians by the end of the century, according to Pew Research Center’s report.
Already, Bangladesh is 4th largest Muslim nation. The center also projects that India is going to have the largest Muslim population surpassing Indonesia by 2050.
The Muslim population is also growing in Europe and 10 per cent of all Europeans is projected to be Muslims by 2050.
According to the PRC report, majorities in Hungary, Italy, Poland and Greece say they view Muslims unfavourably. Negative attitudes toward Muslims are much less common in France, Germany, the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Northern and Western Europe.
In the United States, where 3.3 million or 1 per cent of its population are Muslims, the Muslim population may increase by 2.1 per cent by 2050.
Americans give Muslims an average rating of 48 degrees in a scale of 100, according to PRC survey, published in the report “Muslims and Islam: Key findings in the US and around the world”.
In America, the report said, Republicans and those who lean toward the Republican Party gave Muslims an average rating of 39, considerably cooler than Democrats’ rating toward Muslims (56).
Pew Research Center also referred to a 2011 survey which revealed that majority of Muslims said they view Westerners as selfish, greedy and immoral. Many in the Western European countries, the US and Russia called Muslims violent and fanatical.
Pew Research Center also found that most people in several countries with significant Muslim populations have an unfavorable view of ISIS.
