Jamaat-e-Islami’s historic grand rally held in the capital

Ensure free and fair election under a caretaker government

-Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher called for establishing a caretaker government in order to hold a free, fair, and credible election. If necessary, he asked to make necessary amendments to the constitution in this regard.

He said this while addressing a grand rally organized by Dhaka south city Jamaat in the Engineer’s Institute auditorium of the capital today. The program was arranged to press the demand for restoring the caretaker government system, curbing the price hike of the essentials, and also releasing Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and all detained leaders and religious scholars.

Central executive committee member and Dhaka south city Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul presided over the program which was hosted by city Secretary and party’s working committee member Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud. Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General and former MP AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, central executive committee member and party’s central publicity Affairs secretary Matiur Rahman Akanda and central executive committee member Mobarak Hossain addressed the program as the special guests.

Among others, Jamaat’s working committee member and Dhaka north city’s Acting Ameer Abdur Rahman Musa, central Majlish-e-Shura member and Dhaka south city’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Advocate Dr. Helal Uddin, central working committee member and Dhaka north city’s Secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud, central working committee member and Dhaka north city’s Secretary Dr. Rezaul Karim, Islami Chhatrashibir’s Secretary General Monjurul Islam, Sramik Kollan Federaion’s General Secretary Atiqur Rahman, central Majlish-e-Shura member, and Dhaka city south’s Assistant Secretary Delwar Hossain, central Majlish-e-Shura member and Dhaka city North’s Assistant Secretary Mahfuzur Rahman and Nazim Uddin Molla, central Majlish-e-Shura member and Dhaka city south’s Assistant Secretary Kamal Hossain, central Majlish-e-Shura member and Dhaka city north’s Assistant Secretary Dr. Fakhruddin Manik and central Majlish-e-Shura member and Dhaka city south’s Assistant Secretary Dr. Abdul Mannan also spoke on the occasion.

Central executive committee member and party’s central publicity Affairs secretary Matiur Rahman Akanda read out the written speech of Jamaat’s Acting Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman.

Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said, the government has given the excuse of the constitution in a bid to attain their ill-political interest. But our constitution clearly stated about securing democracy, freedom of speech, and public lives and properties. Though the government is talking about holding a fair election but to do so, there is no alternative to a caretaker government. For a credible election, a level-playing field is a must. Awami League talked about a fair election but actually, in the previous election of this tenure, they bagged 154 constituencies without any election. They cast votes on the previous nights of the scheduled election day. He urged the government to give up dilly-dallying and to bring back decent political trends.

He said, we often hear of the determination to make a golden Bengal. But to do so, we need golden people. The manpower of Jamaat and Shibir is those golden people. They are not involved with any criminal offense. For making a welfare state, there is no alternative but honest and qualified leadership. For establishing a just society, he put emphasis on strengthening Jamaat-e-Islami.

Dr. Taher claimed the government has chosen the path of torture and repression as they failed to tackle Jamaat-e-Islami ideologically. As a part of the persecution, they kept world-renowned Mufassir, Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer, and former MP Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee, Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam, Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, central executive committee member and Dhaka north city Ameer Mohammad Selim Uddin, central Majlish-e-Shura member and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury and many other religious scholars detained unjustifiably. He demanded the immediate release of all the political prisoners.

In the written speech, Acting Ameer and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman said, the welfare both in this world and the hereafter will be ensured if we can comply with the law of Allah on all occasions. Otherwise, we have to be humiliated everywhere. Jamaat-e-Islami has been working relentlessly to establish the doctrine of Allah and the rule of honest leadership in this country. He urged the government to release all detained leaders, open the party’s central and district-level offices, allow political parties to hold rallies, withdraw all false cases, annul the digital security act, and allow the resumption of all closed media.

Hamidur Rahman Azad said autocracy has been forcefully imposed upon the nation. To get rid of the situation, there is no alternative but a massive movement. He called for holding a free, fair, and credible election under the caretaker government system. Otherwise, they will be compelled to fulfill the public demand.

Maulana Abdul Halim said Jamaat is an ideological and tested party. Jamaat took part in all national elections except just four ones and bagged a significant number of constituencies. So, there is no way to ignore Jamaat-e-Islami. He urged the government and the administration to stop hostile activities against Jamaat-e-Islami.

Matiur Rahman Akanda said though the authority claimed that Jamaat has no registration this is not true. The entire issue is still subjudice. The election commission has unjustifiably excluded the name of Jamaat-e-Islami from the list of the registered lists.

Mobarak Hossain said the torture and repression of this government have exceeded all the previous records. Several thousands of people have been imprisoned. Over 300 people have been murdered. More than 500 people became crippled. This oppressor government has no right to stay in office anymore.

Nurul Islam Bulbul said the inflation has crossed all margins during the current tenure. The government has kept Jamaat Ameer and other leaders behind the bar to attain the ill-interest. They have destroyed democracy and democratic values just to linger in its tenure. So, we have to build a national consensus to oust this failure and tyrannical government.
