Secretary General visits Mirpur slum fire accident spot; blames government for their failure to stop such accidents
Urges party men to come forward for assisting the victims;
Several thousand families have been affected in an incident of massive fire which took place on last 16th August at the Jhilpar slum in Mirpur 7 of Dhaka. 50 thousand people became homeless because of this blaze. Many people became wounded as well. As a result, massive humanitarian crisis has been created in the area.
To witness the casualties and to assist the homeless people, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman visited the spot today. He became shocked to see the situation and extended deep sympathy and empathy to the victims. He expressed resentment as the concerned authority did not take prompt initiative to douse the fire. He also urged the authority to initiate the rehabilitation process immediately. During the visit, Jamaat Secretary General was accompanied by Jamaat’s central executive committee and Dhaka north city Ameer Salim Uddin, central working committee member and Dhaka north city Jamaat’s Secretary Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, Rupnagar thana Nasir Uddin, Pollobi thana north Ameer Saiful Quader, Rupnagar south thana Ameer Ashraful Alam, Rupnagar Secretary Abu Hanif, Pollobi Secretary Abul Kalam Pathan, Jamaat leader Jamal Uddin, Liakat Ali, Saiful Islam, Abul Bashar, Shahjahan Dewan and Chhatrashibir leader Jobayer.
Secretary General talked with the victims exclusively and advised them not to lose hope and to tackle the ongoing adversities with due patience. On behalf of Jamaat-e-Islami, he assured to help the victims. Jamaat’s Secretary General expressed deep concern as the fire incidents are being taken place frequently in the capital now days. He demanded to form a powerful and influential committee to probe into the fire incident.
Addressing the gathering Jamaat Secretary General said, “we want to see accident as accident. But the number of such accidents have increased in recent years mysteriously. The probe committee which had been formed earlier to probe the fire incidents of Nimtoli and Chockbazar, ultimately failed to deliver any positive result. Though such accidents increased in numbers, the concerned authorities have not taken any precautions. Resultantly, we have to witness massive casualties. The government is often claiming of securing major progress and development but the reality is, even they failed to bring latest technologies and machineries to douse the fire. The casualties would be minimized if the government put more emphasis on using latest technologies in fire extinguishing procedures.
Dr. Shafiqur Rhaman urged the government to take effective steps to provide compensation to the victims and to ease the medical treatment of the injured. He also asked the partymen to come forward to help and assist the victims of this miserable accident.
