Incidents of mob beating increased alarmingly; Secretary General calls the government to take cautionary actions

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 22 July 2019 expressing deep concern as the incidents of mob beating has alarmingly increased nationwide on suspicion of being child kidnappers or on rumor of cutting heads.

“We have been observing with great concern that people are becoming victim of mob beating since a rumor had spread two weeks back that the Padma bridge authorities need to sacrifice people at the construction site. Since then, many people are being killed by mob lynching on suspicion of being child kidnappers. The guardians and parents of school going children become extremely anxious over the current situation of the country.

Government’s corruptions and briberies have no limits. The law enforcement agencies are committing crimes like abduction and murder. Rape against women and children also increased rampantly. Overall, a severe anarchic situation is prevailing in the country. We are watching a Bangladesh, which has completely failed to ensure safety and security to the people and their properties.

According to the reports of various newspaper, because of mob beating, so far 10 people have been killed and another 22 became critically injured. Several groups of violent people are murdering people without assessing the rumors at all. Resultantly, panic and fear are ruling over the nation. Even the guardians are in fear to send their kids to the schools. The people are trying to punish the offenders by themselves as they have lost their confidence upon the law enforcers.

I am calling upon the concerned authorities to bring the people to the book who are spreading these false rumors and committing crimes like mob beating. Besides, I am urging them to take effective steps so that no one could dare to commit such heinous crimes in future.
