Police arrests Kurigram district Jamaat Ameer; Secretary General demands immediate release

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 26 June 2019 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of Kurigram district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abdul Matin.

“Police has unlawfully and unjustifiably arrested Kurigram district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abdul Matin on last 25 June dawn. Following the arrest, police has sued him along with 23 others in connection with a false case under special power act. I am vehemently protesting and condemning the incident.

Police has arrested Kurigram district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abdul Matin as a part of the government’s conspiracy to destroy the leadership of this organization. Government’s fascist face once again has been exposed by this arrest incident. The incumbent authoritarian government has been arresting the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chharashibir to linger its autocratic rule. I am urging the fellow countrymen to raise vocal against the misrule of the government.

Finally, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop repression, crack down and arrest drive and also to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir including Maulana Abdul Matin immediately.
