Oppressions and tortures unsettle the Muslim minorities in India; Secretary General expresses concerns

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 25 June 2019 expressing deep concern as the minority sections of India, particularly the Muslim community has been experiencing unprecedented oppression and torture in last couple of years.

“India is a democratic country. The peace-loving communities of the globe expect that the religious, social and political rights of all the minorities, particularly of the Muslim communities will be ensured. It is authority’s obligation to make it possible so that all minority people can live over there peacefully with due securities and dignities.

But unfortunately, the minorities in India have been experiencing unprecedented tortures and repression for last couple of years which have upset the people of good conscience. We hope and believe that the government of India will take due legal measures to probe into the recent incidents of minority people murders. In addition, I am urging the Indian government to take effective steps to protect and preserve the lives and properties of the Muslims and other minority communities.
