Jamaat Ameer recalls the contribution of Shaheed Maulana Nizami for the Islamic movement in Bangladesh

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 9 May 2019 urging all to materialize the dream of former Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, internationally recognized religious scholar, former minister and former parliamentarian Shaheed Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami.

“Shaheed Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami is a familiar name to the people of Bangladesh. He has made outstanding contributions to secure people’s voting rights and also to launch multi-party democratic system in this country. He has struggled throughout his life to turn Bangladesh into a comprehensive Islamic welfare state.

The government has executed him on 10 May of 2016 in connection with some false case and concocted charges in order to attain their ill political interest.

While discharging duties as the Agriculture Minister and subsequently as the Minister of Industries, Maulana Nizami has set an example of efficiency, honesty and transparency. The people of Bangladesh will never forget his exceptional roles. As a top leader of the Islamic movement, he has worked throughout his life to convey the message and sermon of Islam to the people of Bangladesh. The incumbent government has unjustifiably hanged this honest and patriot leader simply because of their political vengeance.

The prosecution has miserably failed to prove all the false charges, brought against him. He has become the worst victim of government’s political vendetta. Even he had experienced unjustified and heinous treatment just immediate before execution. He did not seek clemency before the office of the President as he firmly believed that only Almighty Allah fixes the fate of human beings.

Those quarters dreamed to destroy the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami by executing party’s top leader, but that dream would never be fulfilled. Rather, every drop of his blood would always inspire and encourage the Islam loving people of this country. The government has marked a stigmatic history by murdering Maulana Nizami. This incident would be regarded as the black chapter of country’s history.

Physically Shaheed Maulana Nizami is no more with us. But the ideology, for which he has sacrificed his life is valid and it will be. He made a lifelong strive to establish this ideology. It would be genuine tribute if we can make his endeavor for establishing Islamic society a real success.

So, let us make a vow to materialize the dream of Shaheed Maulana Nizami. We should continue the struggle from our part unless and until an Islamic welfare state is established.

I am praying to Almighty Allah for the acceptance of the martyrdom of Maulana Nizami and recalling his outstanding contributions with due solemnity and gratitude.
